RAW Photo Design at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake
So I said to myself ... how hard could it be? I take photos ... I blog ... I am a reasonably intelligent adult human being ... really, how hard could it be? It sure LOOKS easy .... yeah ... kinda like brain surgery or hitting a 89 mile per hour splitter looks easy. For those who want the bottom line ... hire a brilliant photographer like Eric and Amber from RAW Photo Design ... just do it ... and do it now.
Anyway, in an effort to improve my meager photography skills ... and because they are super cool ... I offered the Pavilion on Crystal Lake for the recent Nail It (in camera) Workshop from RAW Photo Design. It was a FREEZING day right before Christmas and I was all set to learn some new skills with a bunch of my fellow classmates. I was ready ... brought my trusty Nikon, even remembered to charge the battery ... I was ready.
As the group assembled ... I started to get a bit nervous as professional photographer after professional photographer streamed into the class (didn't the info say amateurs were welcome? Where were the rest of the amateurs?)
As Eric started his lecture (prior to shooting) I was feeling pretty good ... following along just fine ... aperture ... got it ... shutter speed ... no problem ... ISO ... check ... white balance ... um, ok, ... filters ... what? ... Lighting, sure, whatever ... I can make it work ... (I hoped)
On to the shooting .... Amber rounded up some really sweet models for the day. Jessica, Erin and Laura (2 of which wore their actual wedding gowns!) These were not pros ... but really terrific if a bit nervous. But everyone was awesome ... especially after a bit of "liquid courage"
First shot ... Eric takes Jessica and positions her directly in front of the windows overlooking Crystal Lake ... and directly into the sun. I am thinking .... "this guy's crazy ... you can't shoot into the sun" when the entire class starts shooting away ... and taking some amazing shots .... yes, it was about this time when I started to understand how over-matched I really was (isn't it cute that it took me this long)
We moved from there onto the dance floor and the stage and even outside in the 20 degree weather and the results are below. Not MY results mind you ... my results are ummmm ... somewhat undistinguished. All I can say is thank God I am a terrific caterer ... or else I would starve!
Enjoy the photos ... visit Eric's Blog for more. I can't wait to hang some in my new sales and event design office on Highland Avenue in Middletown.
By the way ... Eric and Amber will be at the 2010 Pavilion Catering Bridal Show and Menu Tasting at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake on Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 10am to 5pm. Don't miss this opportunity to meet us both at the same time .... and I promise to leave my Nikon at home!

Christmas has come a bit late this year .... but boy was it worth it. My Facebook buzzed with the news that the ultra talented Val McCormick had posted pictures from Gillian and Michael's wedding at the Pavilion on Crystal Lake. I wonder who is more excited ... me or Gillian!!! I LOVE great art ... gets me super excited for all of my 2010 brides!
